Letters from the Chief to the Community

Footprints Near Pharmacy Hall

Dear UMB community:

This morning, we were disturbed to find bloody footprints near Pharmacy Hall. I know this has caused concern in our community. Let me reassure you that there is no known threat to our University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) community.

Based on our investigation, we have learned that a person was injured off-campus at West Lexington Street and North Fremont Avenue. The person walked to the University of Maryland Medical Center, leaving the trail found by our community today. The footprints are being cleaned. We wish this person a speedy recovery.

UMB remains one of the safest places to live, work, and learn in Downtown Baltimore. Still, I know how this situation can impact our community’s well-being. Please know resources are available through the Student Counseling Center and Employee Assistance Program. Our Safe Walk/Safe Ride are available on campus and in our surrounding neighborhoods through the Mobile UMB App and calling 410-706-6882.

Your safety remains our top priority. I want to thank those who reported their concerns to UMB Police and Public Safety. We are here for you 24/7 by calling 410-706-6882. Together, we can build a safer UMB.

Sincerely,

Thomas Leone, MSL
Assistant Vice President for Public Safety and Chief of Police
