University of Maryland, Baltimore | Virtual Founders Week | Oct. 10 - 13, 2020

Each year, the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) celebrates the achievements and successes of our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and philanthropic supporters and pays tribute to UMB’s 213-year history with a series of Founders Week events.

UMB’s standing as one of the nation’s pre-eminent public research universities in the nation and our contributions to important advances in basic science and applied research are more important than ever in 2020, as our state, nation, and the world are challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic and the unprecedented disruption it has caused.

Founders Week is a wonderful opportunity to recognize our achievements, our future possibilities, and the invaluable role that our community, government, and business partners play in helping UMB fulfill its mission to improve the human condition and serve the public good of Maryland.

We also gratefully acknowledge the generosity of alumni, friends, and employees whose donations and support have lifted the $750 million Catalyst Campaign past the $565 million mark. We can now see the finish line to this impressive campaign, and on Saturday, Oct. 10, we’ll pause from the hard work at hand to celebrate UMB’s many achievements with a virtual Founders Week Gala titled A Night of Stars.

Two other Founders Week staples, the Staff Luncheon and Student Cookout, had to be canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions, but the annual lectures from our Researcher of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year will go on and be presented virtually.
