Lyft is the official rideshare partner for the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

UMB is excited to announce that we’re launching TWO new on-demand ride programs with Lyft, available to all current UMB students, faculty, and staff:

Lyft On-Demand ShuttleLyft Ride Smart at UMB
40% off 16 rides per month, up to $4 off per ride $5 off up to 3 rides per month
Rides from a variety of neighbordhoods Rides within campus
Rides must start and end at a designated shuttle stop Rides must start and end in the service area
Available during commuting hours Available from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily

 

These programs are intended to better serve the UMB community with affordable on-demand options, given that the UM Shuttle and previous Safe Ride programs were recently suspended due to COVID-19.

All currently enrolled students and active faculty and staff can opt-in and participate in both programs. See program pages linked above for more details.

How to Sign Up


Lyft On-Demand Shuttle and Lyft Ride Smart

All currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff will receive two separate email invitations at their official UMB email account from Lyft Business on Tuesday, November 24, one inviting them to activate the Lyft On-Demand Shuttle program, and another to activate the Lyft Ride Smart program. Open each of these emails and follow the prompts to opt-in to the programs to receive your discounted rides.

Your discounts will then automatically be applied to your account within the Lyft app (in the "Promos" section) to rides which meet each program's eligibility criteria

Additional Program Information


  • If you request a ride that doesn’t meet the criteria, you will not see the discount shown on your ride confirmation screen and you will pay out of pocket. Lyft will not provide refunds for rides that take place outside of the geofence parameters.
  • Prices may be impacted by distance, traffic, time of day, special events and prime time surcharges.
  • If you see an expiration date of the last day of the current month listed in your Lyft app, don’t worry – the program discount is automatically re-applied on the first day of each month, so the last day of the current month will always show as an expiration date but won’t affect your ability to receive discounted rides.

Tips For Riding Smart with Lyft


  • Verify your ride by making sure the license plate number, driver information, and car make and model match what you see in the app.
  • Share your location and route with a friend or loved one from within the Lyft app so they can follow your ride in real time.
  • Follow the Lyft vehicle on GPS via the app.
  • Ask the driver to say who they are picking up.

Lyft’s Health Safety Program


In response to COVID-19, Lyft launched a Health Safety Program, which includes:

  • Personal health certification for drivers and riders
  • Required face masks for drivers and riders
  • Health safety education for drivers and riders
  • Distribution of cleaning supplies and masks for drivers
