The Summer Aid Request Form should be completed by students who plan to enroll in elective summer credits and wish to use loans to assist with paying for summer costs. Students must also meet the additional criteria listed below. The deadline to submit the form is May 31, 2024 by 4:00PM.

For summer Federal Work-Study eligibility, students must complete the Federal Work Study Request Form.

Requirements for Summer Aid

To be reviewed for summer financial aid eligibility, students must:

  • Have a valid 2024-2025 FAFSA on file.
  • Enroll in a minimum of six (6) credit hours.
  • Complete a Summer Aid Request Form.

Who Should Not Complete the Form

Students in the following programs are NOT required to complete a Summer Aid Request Form. These programs are automatically set up to cover summer costs or have early fall term start dates that begin in the summer.

  • 3rd & 4th Year School of Medicine (MD)
  • 3rd & 4th Year School of Dentistry (DDS)
  • Master of Science in Law (MSL)
  • Nurse Anesthesia
  • Physical Therapy (DPT)
  • Physician's Assistant
  • Post Doc Dental Students
  • Students requesting FWS only

Types of Aid Available for Summer

The Summer Cost of Attendance (COA) is calculated based on the student's program, residency status, and number of summer credits. Below are the types of aid available that students can potentially use to assist with paying for summer costs.

Institutional scholarship funds are only available at the discretion of the individual schools. Students interested in summer Federal Work Study (FWS) eligibility must complete the separate 2024-2025 FWS Request Form. Students interested in both loans and FWS for the summer must complete both forms.

Processing Timeline for Summer Aid

Once students have been awarded for fall/spring, financial aid counselors will begin to determine summer aid eligibility. The next steps in the awarding process can be found below:

  1. Students will be sent an email to their UMB account notifying them of their aid eligibility for the summer term. **Awards are based on enrollment at the time of review and enrollment changes will result in adjustment to financial aid eligibility. Students should notify their counselor immediately regarding any enrollment changes. **
  1. Students must respond to the email confirming the loan amount they want to borrow for summer.
  1. Complete loan requirements (Grad Plus MPN/ Entrance counseling) through StudentAid.gov.
  1. Loan processing will begin in June. Files take approximately 5-7 business days to be processed and disbursements will occur in mid-June, provided all requirements have been completed and students are correctly enrolled.
  1. Once the loan funds have been disbursed, refunds take approximately 7-10 days to be received via BankMobile. Information about the refund process can be found here.
