Richard L. Taylor, MD ’75, FAAN

Taylor is a neurologist and, prior to his retirement from active medical practice, was the founder and medical director of Taylor Medical Group, a medical specialty practice dedicated to providing the highest-quality neurological care to people in Central Maryland. Founded in 1976, it was known for offering expert clinical and diagnostic neurological services.  

During his professional career, Taylor also served as chief of the Division of Neurology at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital (where he was also a member and treasurer of the Medical Staff Executive Committee) and chief of clinical neurophysiology at Sheppard Pratt Hospital and Greater Baltimore Medical Center.  He is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), where he remains active as a volunteer even after his medical practice retirement. 

After earning a BA degree with Phi Beta Kappa designation from Johns Hopkins University, Taylor received his MD with honors in 1975 from UMSOM, where he also was elected a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He has remained very active in UMSOM Medical Alumni Association affairs, including Finance Committee work and becoming its 125th president in 1999. He has received a number of awards, including the Medical Alumni Association’s “Distinguished Service Award” in 2015, the UMSOM’s “Alumni Leadership Award” in 2020, and UMB’s “Catalyst Champion for Excellence Award” in 2021. 

Taylor also serves on the UMSOM Board of Visitors and he has been a member of the UMBF Board of Trustees since 2009.
