The University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation (UMBF), an independent Foundation incorporated in 2000, is established to receive, manage, and invest private gifts and/or property for the benefit of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) and its related programs and supporting activities.

UMBF is recognized by USM as an affiliated foundation and is classified by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public corporation, exempt from federal income tax. The Foundation manages private philanthropic contributions as directed by the donors, and in compliance with IRS regulations and the USM Board of Regents Affiliated Foundation Policy.
