John C. Weiss III

John Weiss - ThumbnailWeiss, a Senior Lecturer and Executive-in-Residence, has been on the faculty of the Merrick School of Business at the University of Baltimore for 25 years. In January 2022 he was appointed by the president to the newly created part-time role of Coordinator for Real Estate for the University. Mr. Weiss has deep experience in the venture capital industry, banking, economic development, and a passion for social entrepreneurship. He has founded or co-founded several organizations and businesses, served in their leadership positions and successfully lead one through an oversubscribed public stock offering and listing on the NASDAQ. During the ‘80s and ‘90s, JC also raised in excess of $125 million for several venture capital funds, growth businesses and nonprofit organizations. 

Weiss currently serves, or has served, on the boards of the University System of Maryland Foundation, the Engineering Society of Baltimore (past chairman), the BioTechnical Institute of Maryland (Chairman), Baltimore City College Scholarship Funds (Vice Chair), mayoral appointee to the Baltimore Public Markets Corp/Lexington Market, and is a gubernatorial appointee to the Board of Trustees of the Baltimore City Community College.  He is a past president of UBalt’s Merrick School of Business Faculty Senate (6 years) and the University Faculty Senate (3 years) and a recipient of the University System of Maryland Board of Regents Award for Public Service. Weiss, a graduate of Baltimore City College, earned his B.S. at Towson University and his MBA at Loyola University.

Weiss was one of the original members of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Board of Visitors in 1995, until it was dissolved and the UMB Foundation (UMBF) was established in 2000. He has offered years of business and economic expertise to the Finance and Audit committees of the UMBF Board of Trustees.
