Upon UMB's request, MGIC may establish country offices to meet UMB's research and programming needs. The MGIC Board is solely authorized to open and close MGIC country offices which may be international branches or affiliates acting on behalf of UMB and MGIC. If the MGIC Board determines a new country office is needed, it arranges the most appropriate legal presence for that context, which could be as an international branch, as a new legal affiliate incorporated as a separate company limited by guarantee, or through another locally appropriate mechanism as recommended by legal counsel.

MGIC's Board of Directors in the US (“parent Board”) governs MGIC business and affairs in all its country office locations. In countries where MGIC is registered as a separate affiliate, the MGIC Board of Directors has established a local board to govern in alignment with the parent Board.

MGIC-Botswana is a company limited by guarantee and is an affiliate of MGIC.
