“The department has provided me with many opportunities for which I am truly grateful. My gift is an attempt to pay forward in some small way what I’ve been given.”

Douglas N. Savin Jr. returned to his alma mater and has been part of the School of Medicine's Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science (PTRS) since 2002 — first as a research assistant, then as a PhD student, and now as a member of the faculty.

His commitment to the department and to the profession of physical therapy is only part of what inspires Dr. Savin to give back to PTRS. He's also thankful for the opportunities he’s received — to learn and practice physical therapy, to explore the research side of the profession and earn his PhD, to join the department’s faculty, and to continue growing professionally and personally.

“I am especially grateful for the chance to work with some of the most gifted and committed colleagues I have ever known,” he says, “and an absolutely wonderful group of people who are incredibly hardworking, bright, talented, and continually keep me on my toes: our students.” Douglas’s support of the department is his way of paying forward — and giving back — what he has received.
