Frequently Asked Questions

What is the “Proud to Work Here. Proud to Give Here.” campaign?

“Proud to Work Here. Proud to Give Here.” is a University-wide awareness and fundraising effort that invites faculty and staff to show their pride with a gift to the UMB school, scholarship, program, fund, or cause that matters most to them.

Is this campaign the same as the Maryland Charities Campaign (MCC)?

No, these are two separate campaigns. Gifts made to UMB through MCC are not included in the Proud to Work Here. Proud to Give Here results and vice versa.

Proud To Work Here – Proud To Give Here

Is the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) internal campaign to encourage employees to support the vital work and service performed throughout the University’s six schools and interdisciplinary Graduate School. Strengthening UMB’s capacity to effectively perform its multiple functions ultimately benefits all who work in the University by creating a successful, collegial environment that leads to pride, productivity, and fulfillment. From scholarship support, to research initiatives, to the work our students, faculty, and staff conduct with our neighbors in West Baltimore and beyond, the opportunities are varied and important. For the full list of giving opportunities visit: www.umaryland.edu/giving/proud

No administrative fees are charged in connection with the Proud to Work Here Proud to Give Here campaign, meaning 100% of each gift goes directly to the programs designated by the donor. Payroll deduction is available for those looking to make a sustaining gift.

Maryland Charities Campaign

Is a community-based campaign encouraging UMB employees to support external organizations that contribute significantly to the quality of life in our city and across the state of Maryland. MCC invites employees to charitably invest in the nearly 1,000 organizations that create broad impact beyond the University, including United Way, Red Cross, Humane Society, and many others. For the full list of giving opportunities visit: https://mcc.maryland.gov

MCC’s primary focus is external to the University, endeavoring to take care of the broader state-wide community. MCC does allow for employee gifts to UMB, but an administrative fee of 12% is charged on all MCC gifts by America’s Charities, the firm that manages the campaign. Payroll deduction is available for those looking to make a sustaining gift.

What is the Catalyst Campaign, and how does the “Proud to Work Here. Proud to Give Here.” campaign fit into it?

The Catalyst Campaign is the university’s multi-year, $750 million fundraising campaign.

All gifts made by faculty and staff to UMB during the Catalyst Campaign will also count toward the annual “Proud to Work Here. Proud to Give Here.” campaign. Because the “Proud to Work Here. Proud to Give Here.” campaign is an annual initiative, members of these groups are asked to make a contribution each fiscal year to help continue building a culture of philanthropy throughout the University community.

Why are faculty and staff being asked to give to UMB?

Faculty and staff are being asked to support UMB through the annual “Proud to Work Here. Proud to Give Here.” campaign because your collective support has the potential to make a big impact on the future of our university. Support from our campus community also demonstrates an internal commitment that can send a powerful message to our external supporters.

What is the deadline for my gift to participate in the “Proud to Work Here. Proud to Give Here.” campaign?

Faculty and staff may participate by making one or more gifts each fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). Gifts must be made by June 30, 2020, to be included in the FY20 “Proud to Work Here. Proud to Give Here.” campaign total.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Your gift is tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law. You will receive a tax receipt for any gifts made directly to the University from the University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation, Inc. Please consult your tax advisor for questions about your specific giving.

Where does my gift go?
