Making a Planned Gift Through a Charitable Gift Annuity: The David and Alice Brainerd Scholarship Endowment

In this video, David Brainerd, MSW, an alumnus of the University of Maryland School of Social Work tells his story and why he and Alice Brainerd, his spouse, became legacy gift donors through their Charitable Gift Annuity, or CGA, and funded a scholarship at the school. During an interview at the School of Social Work, Mr. Brainerd shares that he has always wanted to help others.

David explains that his fulfilling career in social work was made possible due to the exemplary education and work-study opportunities he received while earning his degree. This career afforded him wide-ranging opportunities to be an agent for change and help those in the community needing help. His core belief in the immense value of social work, combined with his appreciation of the impact of the School on social work across the state of Maryland, led the Brainerds to make their gifts. The CGA fits with their personal financial needs. So it’s a win-win-win situation. And the Scholarship supports students at the School who need tuition help, enabling the next generation to carry on this important work. Mr. Brainerd also encourages other alumni to consider financially supporting the School.
