NSF Science Code

Beginning August 1, 2019, UMB will begin collecting the NSF Science Code for all proposals with an activity type of Research (Research-Applied, Research-Basic, Research-Development). The NSF Science Code is entered in Kuali Research on the section "Sponsor & Program Information". Work with your PI to select the code description that best matches the area of research. Typically, UMB research projects fall under the following codes:

B.02 Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering
C.03 Ocean Sciences and Marine Sciences
D.01 Life Sciences
D.02 Biological and Biomedical Sciences
D.03 Health Sciences
J.05 Law
J.06 Social Work
J.08 Other Non-Science and Engineering Fields

The data collected in the NSF Science Code field are required for federal reporting by UMB and UMCP. The Kuali Research validation on this field simply assures that a code is entered and does not otherwise affect proposal submission.
