Rating Periods

Exempt

Exempt employees shall receive a performance review at least once every 12 months. The rating cycle begins on April 1 and ends on March 31 of the following calendar year. Evaluation process for the past year must be concluded no later than the first week in June; this includes discussions regarding performance during the evaluation period, signatures obtained by appropriate parties, and submission to Employee Labor Relations. Initial discussion of expectations and performance reviews may be conducted more frequently when appropriate (e.g., a new employee, employee transfers to a new job, changes in performance level during the evaluation period).

Failure to complete the PDP will result in a default rating of “meets standards,” which could affect an employee’s eligibility to receive a merit increase for the rating cycle as well as other benefits.

Nonexempt

Nonexempt employees shall receive a mid-cycle performance review and an annual performance review. The rating cycle begins on April 1 and ends on March 31 of the following calendar year. Evaluation process for the past year must be concluded no later than April 30 of each year; this includes discussions regarding performance during the previous evaluation period, signatures obtained by appropriate parties, and submission to Employee Labor Relations. Initial discussion of expectations and performance reviews may be conducted more frequently when appropriate (e.g., a new employee, employee transfers to a new job, changes in performance level during the evaluation period). Discussions regarding performance expectations for the upcoming rating cycle should be conducted no later than May 31 of each year.

Failure to complete either the mid-cycle or annual PDP will result in a default rating of “meets standards,” which could affect an employee’s eligibility to receive a merit increase for the rating cycle as well as other benefits.
