Procedure Development

UMB’s procedures help facilitate University-wide business process improvement.

Procedures may be owned by a VP, AVP, or Director, as appropriate for their office, but all should follow a standard process for development and review.

Initiating New Procedure Work

A new procedure initiative may be indicated if a growth event occurs that affects the way your office does business, users or stakeholders are having difficulties with a current process, or a routine university-wide procedure needs to be formally document to meet legal or operational requirements. New procedure initiatives will require documented VP approval.

Drafting Procedures

Procedures are generally drafted at the Director level but may require VP involvement or legal review depending on the content. The designated drafter is responsible for identifying any secondary owners, key stakeholders for review, and any upcoming projects that may affect the procedure moving forward.

Procedure Review and Approval

Procedures must be reviewed and approved by the appropriate business owners and stakeholders. Documentation of final review and approval must be maintained by this Office.
