UMB ICTR Announces First ICTR/CTSA TL1 Training and KL2 Mentored Career Development Awardees

2019-2020 KL2 Mentored Career Development Awardees
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) is pleased to announce the awardees of the 2019-2020 KL2 Mentored Career Development Awards. UMB KL2 awards are designed to develop the next generation of clinical investigators, guiding scholars toward independent clinical research careers. The UMB KL2 program provides mentored career development to outstanding junior faculty who have recently completed professional training and are performing high-impact translational and/or clinical research. Scholars receive up to four years of support with access to multi-disciplinary mentorship, formal coursework, and professional development opportunities.
Funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA), Dr. Janet Leath Alexander (School of Medicine), was recently selected as our UMB ICTR/CTSA KL2 Scholar. With the generous support from the UMB Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Social Work, an additional five ICTR Scholars join Dr. Alexander as the inaugural cohort of ICTR KL2 Scholars. These are Sydnee Chavis, DMD (School of Dentistry), Stephanie Chen, MD (School of Medicine), Rachel Breman, PhD, MPH, RN (School of Nursing), Danya Qato, PharmD, PhD, MPH (School of Pharmacy), and Jaih Craddock, PhD, MSW, MA (School of Social Work). These UMB Scholars join the KL2 awardees at Johns Hopkins University, our CTSA partner. Congratulations to all!

2019-2020 UMB ICTR TL1 Training Awardees
The UMB Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) is proud to announce the recipients for the inaugural UMB ICTR TL1 Clinical Research Training Awards. The TL1 Training Program is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) program. Funding for three awardees in this program is provided by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA), one awardee is funded by the ICTR.
The purpose of the TL1 Awards is to support the training of biomedical, behavioral, and clinical researchers through individual training across all UMB Schools. Pre-Doctoral students and Post-Doctoral Fellows from all seven UMB Schools (Dentistry, Law, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work and Graduate School) were invited to apply for this award. The TL1 Pre-doctoral awardees receive one year of stipend, tuition and training-related expenses support while the TL1 Post-Doctoral Awardees receive two years of support which also includes stipend, some tuition and training-related expenses. All scholars will complete a master’s degree in a clinical research area.
The recipients of the TL1 Post-Doctoral Awards are Dongwon Kim, PhD and Olivia Martin, MD and the recipients of the TL1 Pre-Doctoral Awards are Bern Monari and Sarah Robbins. These UMB Scholars join the TL1 awardees at Johns Hopkins University, our CTSA partner. Congratulations to all!
