Ellucian Experience Launches This Summer

UMB will officially transition from SURFS to Ellucian Experience in June 2026.

What Is Ellucian Experience?

Experience is the new face of Self-Service Banner commonly known as SURFS. Designed for students, instructors, and advisors, it brings together key university resources—such as class registration, financial aid, and several support services—along with tools for advising and grading, in one easy-to-use platform.

Why the Change?

The new Experience Portal offers several key improvements over SURFS:

  • Improved User Experience: A modern, mobile-friendly interface that simplifies navigation between UMB systems.
  • Personalized Dashboards: Ability to customize your portal with information that is relevant to you.
  • Future-Ready: Regular updates to ensure access to the latest features.
  • Improved Support: Resources and updates that are more readily accessible to you.

What to Expect During the Transition

For students, the existing functionality you are familiar with—registering for courses, changing your address, checking grades, reviewing financial aid, and more—will mostly remain the same, but it will now be presented as part of a more easily accessible dashboard.

The same is true for instructors and advisors who currently use SURFS for grading and advising purposes. While the appearance and navigation may be updated, the core functionality will remain familiar.

Overall, Experience will provide a simpler, more intuitive interface for completing everyday tasks and accessing key academic systems. It will also provide access to a personalized homepage where you can quickly access the cards most relevant to you.

What’s more, Experience is built on a mobile-friendly, future-ready platform designed to work seamlessly across all your devices while continuing to evolve through ongoing enhancements and expanded functionality over time.
