Counseling Program for UMB Students Living Overseas

The University of Maryland Baltimore is dedicated to caring for and maintaining the emotional wellbeing of all students near and far from campus. Students living outside of the United States have the opportunity to use the confidential BHS Student Assistance Program at no cost, for short-term counseling, 24/7 crisis counseling and well-being coaching. Services will be provided in the language of the selected country and can be accessed in multiple ways including email, phone and the iConnectYou app.

Support is provided by BHS, staffed by professionals who are completely independent of your organization. They are bound by professional standards regarding confidentiality, and do not disclose details of individuals who have contacted the service. Any information you share is at your discretion and will not be shared with your organization.

iConnectYou App

  1. Find your country from the list below and download the pdf document
  2. Download the iConnectYou app to your chosen device
  3. Register with iConnectYou with your unique passcode located on the pdf document

Visiting the Website

  1. Visit the webpage at https://helpwhereyouare.com/
  2. Enter UMB as your Student Code
  3. Select your Country/Region from the drop down menu

  1. Find your country from the list below and download the pdf document
  2. On the right side of the document, locate the Freephone or the Direct Dial number
    • All mobile carriers do not permit Freephone calls
    • Direct Dial numbers will require your international country code before the direct number

FAQ for Counseling for Students Living out of the U.S.

UMB Students located outside of the United States may receive virtual counseling services through the BHS platform. Below are a few questions and answers to assist students that qualify and may be interested in this service. If you do not see your country of residence in this list, please contact Dr. Jenna Silverman, Executive Director of the Student Counseling Center, for additional information. Who can use this virtual counseling service? 

If you are a currently enrolled full-time or part-time University of Maryland, Baltimore student and DO NOT live within the United States you may access this service.

If you are an online student living within the United States, but not in the state of Maryland please call the SCC at (410) 328-8404 and inquire about referral services.

How many sessions with a counselor will I have? 

Students using this service, will have five (5) sessions to meet with a counselor. After the last qualifying session, the care manager will refer the student to a provider within their community.

Do I have to pay or use insurance for the virtual counseling service? 

No.

This service is provided to UMB Students living out of the U.S for free. No insurance or forms of payment are needed to access this service.

Where can I download the iConnectYou app? 

Download the iConnectYou app to your chosen device through the App Store or Google Play Store.

Is this service confidential and private? 

Yes.

No one from your program will have access to the information you share in counseling, and will not be informed if you use/access this service. Counseling sessions are confidential. BHS will not share any of your information with the Student Counseling Center or University of Maryland, Baltimore.
