General Assistant – Event Services (Federal Work Study only) 

Duties:

  • Assist Event Services staff in event facilitation, logistics, and supervision
  • Assist with daily event management, to include unlocking meeting rooms, checking out equipment, and acting as event greeter
  • Assist with daily event setups, technical requirements, furniture, and equipment, including moving and setting up tables, chairs, couches, and other related furniture for event and lounge spaces
  • Assist with resetting spaces after events/meetings; maintain neat and clean appearance of information center, lounges, meeting rooms, hallways
  • Assist with the setting up of Audio Visual Equipment in event space
  • Maintain orderly appearance in all storage areas
  • Maintain awareness of daily event schedule and all related information
  • Attend required departmental meetings, staff development programs and in service trainings
  • Complete daily reports and other documents as required

Legal Assistant - Office of International Services (Federal Work Study only) 

The Legal Assistant will:

  • answer and screen phone calls
  • assist OIS visitors and manage walk-ins during walk-in advising
  • help with data entry and preparing immigration/visa petitions (of UMB sponsored faculty and staff) for filing with USCIS
  • communicate with department contacts and OIS clientele about pending cases
  • help with scanning paper files, uploading them to the OIS database, and auditing scanned files,
  • assist with special projects as assigned
  • maintain confidentiality of clients' information, and 
  • present a positive image of the OIS

The OIS serves international students, scholars, faculty, and staff that come to UMB to study, research, collaborate, teach, and work in various departments. Interested applicants should email their resume and availability to Semhar Okbazion at sokbazion@umaryland.edu.

Office Assistant - Office of International Services (Federal Work Study only) 

The Office Assistant will:

  • answer phones
  • assist OIS visitors
  • help with scanning paper files, uploading them to the OIS database, and audit scanned files
  • perform varied clerical duties as assigned, which may include helping with OIS events
  • maintain confidentiality of clients' information, and 
  • present a positive image of the OIS
