Mandatory Research Security Training
The SPA Research Security team is diligently working to ensure Covered Individuals and Key Persons complete the UMB Research Security Training, as mandated by NSPM-33 and the CHIPS and Science Act. Federal funding agencies, including the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, and Department of Energy, require research security training when seeking federal funds.
The UMB Research Security Training can be accessed here. Please be sure to download and save the certificate once the training is complete. Email the Research Security Manager or SPA-Research_Security with questions.
New Supplemental Resource on Disclosure Requirements
For federal funding, Covered Individuals and Senior/Key Personnel are required to disclose professional and personal activities and relationships that may influence their research. Disclosures ensure transparency and trust are maintained in the scientific ecosystem.
To support the UMB community, SPA’s Research Security team has developed a disclosure supplement that offers helpful tips and resources for navigating the nuances and complexities of disclosures. This is supplemental to Section 2 of the UMB Research Security training and addresses disclosure requirements for UMB and federal agencies (specifically NIH Other Support), conflicts of interest, and conflicts of commitment.
To access the disclosure supplement, please email the Research Security Team.
