Understanding the Data

Managing for Results reports include standardized measures used across the University System of Maryland. These measures follow state reporting guidelines to ensure consistency and accountability.

In most cases, fiscal year data aligns with the academic year (summer, fall, and spring terms).

Reported as the percentage of students who complete their program within 150% of the expected time (for example, six years for a four-year program).

Represent the percentage of graduates who pass required professional exams on their first attempt.

Reflects the average debt of graduates at the time of completion, excluding debt from prior institutions.

Includes grants, contracts, and externally reported research expenditures from national and system-level sources.

Data Sources

Data reported through Managing for Results comes from a combination of institutional systems and external reporting organizations, including:

  • State and system reporting (e.g., Maryland Higher Education Commission)
  • National data sources (e.g., National Science Foundation)
  • Professional licensing and accrediting bodies
  • Internal university reporting systems
