What We Do
Data is powerful, but only when it leads to action. IEIE provides data to our institutional partners to understand impact, to help guide informed decisions, and to implement improvements.

At UMB, inclusive excellence is both a commitment and a practice. IEIE leads UMBs initiatives and develops strategics to advance equity through data informed decisions to improve how we serve our students and our community, and to improve the human condition and serve the public good.
At the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), inclusive excellence and institutional effectiveness are not separate pursuits — they are one.
The Office of Inclusive Excellence and Institutional Effectiveness (IEIE) helps UMB understand how it is performing and where it can improve. We bring together data, support decision-making, and work with partners across the University to strengthen programs, develop leaders, and create a community where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
Data is powerful, but only when it leads to action. IEIE provides data to our institutional partners to understand impact, to help guide informed decisions, and to implement improvements.
Lead equity, diversity, and inclusion strategy and programming across UMB to advance systemic change and ensure every community member feels valued and able to fully participate.
Support programs across UMB in assessing student learning outcomes, improving curricula, and demonstrating educational quality and continuous improvement.
Maintain core facts and figures about UMB, providing students, leadership, accreditors, and oversight bodies with a clear, evidence-based picture of our performance and how we compare to peer institutions.
Coordinate institutional accreditation activities and support the compliance infrastructure that keeps UMB in good standing.
Support data-informed budget planning and resource allocation to align financial decisions with strategic priorities and institutional goals.
Collect and analyze institutional data to help units measure performance, benchmark against peers, and make informed decisions that strengthen operations.
Facilitate UMB's strategic planning process by supporting schools and units in developing, implementing, and tracking goals that advance the University’s mission.
Rooted in UMB’s core values of equity and justice, our work connects the University’s strategic plan goals to measurable outcomes, assessment, and accountability systems. We believe that a university committed to improving the human condition must reflect that commitment in how it measures performance, plan for the future, and support every member of its community.

IEIE is here to support the UMB community. We aim to advance inclusive excellence through capacity building initiatives. We partner with schools and administrative units to collect, analyze, and report on data, to assess progress towards unit and institutional goals.
We are institutional leaders/partners in the accreditation process. If you want to learn more about IEIE initiatives or to partner on unit initiatives, we'd love to hear from you.
