Graduation and progression (retention) rates provide insight into how students move through and complete their programs at UMB. Tracking these outcomes helps the university evaluate student success, identify opportunities for improvement, and demonstrate accountability to students, accreditors, and the public.

Graduation Rates

Graduation rates measure the percentage of students who complete their programs within defined timeframes.

Graduation Rate Methodology

How graduation rates are calculated and reported.

UMB undergraduate programs include nursing, dental hygiene, and medical and research technology. Graduation rates are calculated for all undergraduate degree programs, regardless of duration or attendance status.

Rates are disaggregated by:

  • Gender
  • Race
  • Pell eligibility

Graduation is measured at 150% of time to degree, consistent with national reporting standards for undergraduate programs.

Graduation rates are reported for programs that meet the following criteria:

  • Primarily full-time enrollment
  • Practice-oriented curriculum
  • Structured course of study (minimum two years)
  • Cohorts typically include at least 50 students

Three measures are reported:

  • 100% of time to degree (on-time graduation)
  • 150% of time to degree
  • Eventual graduation (by the end of the reporting period)

Progression Rates

Progression (retention) rates measure whether students are continuing in or have completed their program from one term to the next.

Progression Rate Methodology

How progression (retention) rates are defined and calculated.

Progression reflects a combination of:

  • Retention: students returning for the next term
  • Graduation: students completing their program

Together, these measures provide a more complete picture of whether students are continuing toward or successfully completing their degrees.

Progression rates are reported for principal professional practice programs that:

  • Enroll primarily full-time students
  • Are practice-oriented
  • Follow a structured course of study (minimum two years)
  • Typically enroll cohorts of at least 50 students

Rates are updated annually each fall after enrollment data is finalized.
