Before departure, contact the Global Hub or check the International Safety & Security team’s availability to directly request a pre-departure security briefing. It is a great opportunity to ask questions about your destination country and learn more about how UMB can support you while traveling.

Steps for International Travel

Step 1: Take Personal Safety and Security training

We highly recommend all UMB travelers take International SOS'online safety and security courses, especially Introduction to Membership (16 minutes) and Travel Risk Awareness (25 minutes).

Step 2: Check If You Are Traveling to a High-Risk Destination

Are your destinations rated High- or Extreme-Risk by International SOS? Check for high- and extreme-risk destinations using International SOS. You'll need the answer in order to complete the form in Step 3.

Although Concur uses security risk ratings as provided by Riskline, an additional resource that provides information about the destination country, UMB will continue to use International SOS’s travel security risk ratings while assessing travel to high or extreme-risk travel security destinations. Learn more about the International SOS risk ratings

Step 3: Sign International Traveler Attestation Form

Complete and sign the Faculty/Staff version of the International Traveler Attestation Form with Risk Acknowledgment in DocuSign. Once signed, you will receive an email with the completed form to attach to the travel request in Concur or to send to your traveler administrator. If you indicate a high-risk destination, your form will be routed to International Operations for approval.

Step 4: Request Travel Authorization

Enter your travel request in the UMB's Concur Travel System. As part of the request and approval process, upload the International Traveler Attestation Form. Authorization is required for all international travel. Take a screenshot of your travel approval for the travel agency.

Step 5: Book Travel with a UMB-Approved Travel Agency

Book your travel using UMB's travel agency, unless an exception has been granted in writing. The travel agency will notify International SOS of your itinerary; if booking outside of UMB's travel agency, you must forward your itinerary to International SOS or manually enter it via International SOS's portal or the Assistance app.

Step 6: Get International SOS Resources

Be sure to download the International SOS app for access to their services while traveling and print a copy of the International SOS membership card to carry with you. See International SOS for additional information.

Back home?

Once you return from your travels, promptly submit for reimbursement of your travel expenses.
