“The Myth of Balance or The Art of Being Unbalanced”

If you are a working adult, chances are you’re trying to juggle a career, family, personal wellness, finances, and so much more all amidst a global pandemic. For many, the idea of balancing it all is daunting and seemingly impossible. What if you let go of the myth of balance and embraced the art of being unbalanced? This day-long symposium aimed to inspire you to do just that! The event featured two keynote speakers: Pamela Peeke, MD, jump-started the day with a motivational talk on making the connections between mind, body, and health. DeRionne Pollard, PhD, MA, president of Montgomery College, shared her personal experience with burnout, how she determined when enough was enough, and her journey back to being chief in charge. The symposium featured a variety of breakout sessions, covering topics such as caregiving, financial planning, self-awareness, women’s health, and stress management.

Allison Morgan, MA, OTR, E-RYT, founder and CEO of Zensational Kids, led the afternoon workshop on mindfulness and self-care techniques. The symposium closed out with an interactive networking lounge for a chance to engage with colleagues and friends. UMBrella also sponsored a virtual donation drive for B’more for Healthy Babies to support families in our neighboring communities.
