Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) for Women Basic Physical Self Defense
New: Resisting Aggression with Defense (R.A.D.) for Men Basic Physical Self Defense

A 12-hour self-defense program with both lecture and hands-on activity. Wear comfortable clothing and bring water. Learn more and register now.

Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE)

CRASE teaches survival techniques for an active shooter scenario, including what to expect when the police arrive. CRASE training can be arranged by contacting Sgt. Thaddeus Baker: tbaker@police.umaryland.edu

UMB Events

Community Engagement Academy

Join University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Police and Public Safety for a three-part series designed to give a behind-the-scenes view of law enforcement. Students, employees, and neighbors are invites to attend. Attendees will learn about the history of the UMB police department, provide feedback, ask questions, and make split-second decisions using a police simulator. 

All sessions are in the SMC Campus Center from 12-1:30 p.m. on October 31, November 1, and November 2. Please plan to attend all three sessions: Lunch is provided.

National Events

National Night Out

On the first Tuesday in August each year, UMB Police and Public Safety welcomes UMB students, employees, and neighbors to our National Night Out event. This national community-building campaign promotes police-community partnerships that make our neighborhoods safer.

Polar Bear Plunge

Each January, UMB Police and Public Safety employees join law enforcement partners across Maryland for the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge, jump into the frigid Chesapeake Bay to support Special Olympics Maryland. In 2021, a “virtual plunge” was held to stay safe during COVID-19.

Kindertime Toy Drive

UMB Police and Public Safety joins law enforcement agencies across Maryland to distribute toys to children in need during the holiday season.

Special Olympics

UMB Police and Public Safety officers volunteer as medal presenters to the competitors at Special Olympics Maryland at Towson University.

DEA National Rx Take Back Day

UMB Police and Public Safety partners with the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy to collect expired and unused prescription and over-the-counter drugs. This program, through the Drug Enforcement Administration, helps prevent drug misuse and keep drugs out of the wrong hands. Find disposal locations
