Small Habits. Big Difference. A Safe Start to the Semester.
Dear UMB Community:
There is something energizing about the start of a new semester. The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) campus comes alive with new and familiar faces as we prepare to learn, grow, and thrive together.
As you get back into the rhythm of the academic year, I offer this simple reminder: Small habits make a big difference. You’ll see this message on digital display monitors, in The Elm Weekly newsletter, and on our @PoliceUMB Facebook, Instagram, and X accounts.
We all have a role to play when it comes to public safety. Small habits — staying aware, securing your belongings, and knowing our safety resources — make a big difference when it comes to our community’s safety. One of the most important habits we can build is to look out for one another. If you notice that a door isn’t secured, take a moment to close it and report it to 410-706-6882. If a colleague, classmate, or friend needs help, lend a hand or point them to the many resources we offer.
Our team at UMB Police and Public Safety is here day and night to help you make those habits easier. Whether you need a Safe Walk or Safe Ride, want to schedule a visit with our comfort K9, need help with your building access, or have a question for our team, we’re here for you. Your small actions add up to make UMB a warm and welcoming community.
Have a safe and successful semester!
Sincerely,
Thomas Leone, MSL
Assistant Vice President for Public Safety and Chief of Police
