Low Emission Vehicles

As part of the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) strategic initiative and Parking and Transportation Services’ (PTS) ongoing commitment to sustainability, Parking and Transportation Services strives to provide parking for low emissions vehicles.

Low emissions, fuel-efficient vehicles are cars, trucks, and other motor vehicles that produce fewer pollutants and emissions than traditional gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles. They are designed to have lower levels of harmful emissions such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter, making them a more environmentally friendly choice.

Low emission, fuel-efficient vehicles use a variety of technologies to achieve their lower emissions, including electric and hybrid powertrains, advanced fuel systems, and improved engine designs. Some Low emissions, fuel-efficient vehicles are powered entirely by electricity, while others combine electric power with a gasoline or diesel engine to achieve greater efficiency and reduced emissions.

Only ACEE-certified vehicles can park in the LEFE spaces. Vehicles not ACEEE-certified and parked in a LEFE space will be issued a warning citation. The UMB Police Department will cite further violations, which may result in a monetary ticket.
