UMB Partners with Lyft on Two On-Demand Ride Programs

    To the UMB Community:

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is excited to announce that it is launching two new on-demand ride programs in a partnership with Lyft on Tuesday, Nov. 24. The programs are available to all current UMB students, faculty, and staff:

    • Lyft On-Demand Shuttle
    • Lyft Ride Smart at UMB

These programs are intended to better serve the UMB community with affordable, on-demand options, given that the UM shuttle and the UMB Police Department’s Safe Ride program are on hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

All currently enrolled students and active faculty and staff can sign up and participate in both programs.

Please note that you must opt in to each program and use your UMB email address when signing up. If you have a Lyft account associated with a different email address, Lyft will allow you to have two email addresses on your account. If you have any issues, please contact the UMB Help Desk via email or at 410-706-HELP.

    How to Sign Up

Keep an eye on your UMB inbox for two email invitations from Lyft Business on Tuesday, Nov. 24, one for Lyft On-Demand Shuttle and one for Lyft Ride Smart at UMB.

Simply follow the steps in the emails to join each program and receive the discount on eligible rides.

    Lyft On-Demand Shuttle

    • 40 percent off 16 rides per month, up to $4 off per ride
    • Available Monday to Friday, 6 a.m.-11 a.m., and 3 p.m.-11 p.m.
    • Rides must start and end at a designated shuttle stop
    • Valid on Standard Lyft rides only

    Lyft Ride Smart at UMB

    • $5 off up to three rides per month
    • Available 7 a.m.-1 a.m. daily
    • Rides must start and end within the program service area
    • Valid on Standard Lyft rides only

You can visit the Lyft On-Demand Shuttle webpage and the Lyft Ride Smart at UMB webpage for more information. Please contact Tony Green (tgreen@umaryland.edu) for Lyft On-Demand Shuttle questions and Lt. Matthew Johnson (matthew.johnson@police.umaryland.edu) for Lyft Ride Smart at UMB questions.

Note: These programs will be available to the UMB community as long as funding permits and are subject to change or early termination. You will be notified about any changes in the programs should they arise.

    Sincerely,

    Robert Milner, MS
    Executive Director, Auxiliary Services

    Thomas Leone
    Interim Chief of Police
