Paul Corcoran, DDS ’75
School of Dentistry
Paul Corcoran’s career reflects a steady commitment to patient care, education, and community involvement. Raised in Rockville, Md., he earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP), and his dental degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD), followed by several years of intensive continuing education training at UCLA Dental. He went on to build a 51‑year dental practice in Vail and later Eagle, Colo., where he continues to provide care and remain involved in the local community.
Dr. Corcoran has served on the staff of Vail Hospital since 1980 and been a part‑time clinical instructor for UMSOD since 2018. He and his wife, Jean, were touched by the needs of underserved patients in their county who often visited Vail Hospital’s emergency room and have provided many years of charity dental care through initiatives such as Dentistry from the Heart and Mountain Family Health Centers, a federally qualified health center where he also serves on its Board of Directors
For many years, Dr. and Mrs. Corcoran have supported UMSOD through philanthropic efforts, including the establishment of the Dr. Paul and Mrs. Jean Corcoran Endowed Professorship —currently held by Robert Ernst, PhD — and the Corcoran & Cooper Scholarship Endowment, which helps ease the financial burden of continuing education.
Dr. Corcoran also contributes his time as a member of the Board of Visitors of UMSOD and UMCP’s College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences Board, offering perspective on issues important to the universities’ communities.
