Permits

UMB offers garage parking designed to make parking on campus easier and more convenient. On this page, you’ll find all the information you need to know about UMB’s parking permit programs for faculty and staff members, including how to apply and costs.

Payroll Deductions

Payroll Deduction permits are for full-time staff and faculty members who plan to park every day at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

For employees interested in payroll deduction, contact your department liaison.

How to Apply

  1. Complete the Parking Application.
  2. Once the application has been accepted, an appointment link will be emailed to the email address on the application. Please wait for the email before making an appointment. Permits must be picked up within 10 days of receiving an appointment link or the application will be voided.
  3. Arrive at the parking cashier’s office at the SMC Campus Center during your scheduled appointment time. You will need your UMB One Card to pick up your permit.

Cost

University employees who are paid through the state of Maryland and park on campus will receive the pre-tax benefit, which decreases your taxable income and reduces your tax liability. Savings depend on your deduction amount and tax bracket.

The current bi-weekly payroll deduction for University garages — full-time parkers — is $59.

Parking Cancellation

To cancel bi-weekly deduction parking, please use this form. Permits must be returned in order to complete the cancellation process. Do not submit a cancellation if you are more than two weeks from wanting your parking canceled. Once you have completed the parking cancellation form and are ready to return your permit, please make an appointment using this link. On your last day of employment, pull a ticket and you will receive a validation to exit when you return your parking permit.

Staff Daily Parking

This is a pay-by-day program for faculty and staff.

All employees will need to renew their permit starting October 15th  to remain active in the system. The renewal is at no charge. If permit is not renewed by October 31st, parkers will experience access issues until permit is renewed.

Garage Assignment

Employee daily permit holders are assigned to the Saratoga Street Garage,  located at 220 Arch St., on a first-come, first-served basis. This facility is open from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is closed on the weekends. A parking space is not guaranteed.

The permit provided must be displayed at all times when parked in the garage. Parkers may relocate their vehicle after 4 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends to any UMB parking facility displaying your Saratoga permit and using your UMB One Card; however, you must move your car by 2:55 a.m. the following day to not incur additional charges. If you park in any other garage prior to 4 p.m. on weekdays, you will be considered a visitor and charged up to the maximum daily rate. Storage of vehicles is prohibited.

When to pull a ticket upon entry:

  • If a staff coupon is being used
  • If your UMB One Card is not activated (visitor rate will apply)

If you forget your card, pull a ticket and pay at the pay-on-foot machine or cashier’s station. The posted garage rates will apply and no refunds will be issued.

How to Apply and Cost

1. For staff pay daily, complete the Staff Daily Parking Application.

2. Once the application has been accepted, an appointment link will be emailed to the email address on the application. Permits must be picked up within 10 days of receiving an appointment link or application will be voided.

3. Arrive at the parking cashier’s office at the SMC Campus Center during your scheduled appointment time. You will need your UMB One Card to pick up your permit. The permit fee is $8 at time of pickup. The pay daily rate is $9.

How It Works

Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) links UMB One Cards of pay-daily staff parkers for the ability to swipe into and out of the Saratoga Garage. To continue to receive the discounted staff pay-daily parking rate, your UMB One Card must be linked with PTS. Pay-daily staff without a linked UMB One Card will pay up to the maximum daily rate. No refunds will be issued.

To link your UMB One Card:

  • Visit the PTS cashier’s office at the SMC Campus Center, lower level, Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., by appointment only

Ways to pay with a linked UMB One Card:

  • Link a debit or credit card to be automatically charged
  • Use the pay-on-foot machine to pay each time you park
  • Pay with credit card or debit card at the cashier's booth each time you park

Starting Nov. 1, American Express will no longer be accepted. To change your credit card or debit card on file, please use the link below to make an appointment.
