Fall 2020 Reopening

CulinArt will officially reopen the first floor Starbucks and Market on Wednesday, September 16. For students and staff that are on campus looking for breakfast, lunch, or quick snack can stop by the Campus Center, Monday - Friday from 8:30 - 10:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. (closed for cleaning between 10:45 - 11:30 a.m.).

A robust selection of the Starbucks’ menu is provided along with pre-packaged single service breakfast sandwiches, fresh fruit cups, yogurt cups, yogurt parfaits, pre-packaged sandwiches, salads, chips, cookies, and snacks. Both a cashier and a self-checkout kiosks are provided to expedite service. 

Faces masks are required, and floor markings denote physical distancing for line queuing.  Food can only be consumed in designated areas within the Campus Center. 

CulinArt can provide catering to any school or unit if there is a need.  Buffet menus are not available due to COVID-19 protocols. If interested in catering, contact CulinArt at 410-706-0484 or catering@umaryland.edu


 

UMB Student Affairs is pleased to announce that on Monday, August 17, the first and second floors of the SMC Campus Center will re-open to UMB students and on-campus employees. The Campus Center will be operational Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Seven Scholars University Bookstore will operate with limited services from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The Market at UMB reopened on Wednesday, Sept. 16. However, CulinArt Cafe remains closed at this time.

The Campus Center has been reconfigured to prioritize spaces for students to touch down, study, and eat down in-between in-person academic commitments during this period of Moderate-Density Operations on campus. Students and employees are expected to comply with the UMB face covering and physical distancing requirements while on campus.

Additionally, as noted in Interim President Bruce E. Jarrell’s COVID-19 Testing for Employees and Students Returning to Campus announcement on July 31, 2020, students and employees must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 diagnostic test taken within 14 days prior to coming to campus. Visit the testing, hygiene, and health page of the UMB Recovery website for information about testing locations and how to submit testing results. Students and employees must complete the UMB SAFE on Campus Daily Symptom Monitoring requirement, prior to coming to campus. UMB Students, faculty, and staff must also complete the required COVID-19 online training prior to coming to campus.

What are the building hours for fall 2020?

As of Monday, August 17, the SMC Campus will be open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. In the event that the hours change, an update will be included in Campus Life Weekly, The Elm, the UMB Recovery website, and this webpage.

How do I enter the building?

Students and on-campus employees will only be allowed access through the SMC Campus Center’s main entry (located on Lombard St.). All other entry doors, including those attached to the Pratt garage, are restricted.

I forgot my One Card, will I be allowed entry?

A One Card is required for entry.

What COVID-19 campus policies must students, faculty, and staff adhere to prior to coming to campus?

What health and safety expectations must individuals follow while using the SMC Campus Center?

The following is a summary of health and safety expectations individuals must follow while using the SMC Campus Center:

  • Patrons must abide by designated flow or traffic patterns marked on floors, entries, and exits.
  • Elevators have limited capacities. Patrons are encouraged to utilize the stairs when possible.
  • Individuals must practice CDC hygiene recommendations while in the facility, including frequent cleaning of hands, use of hand sanitizer stations in the building, proper use of PPE, and exiting the facility if experiencing symptoms or illness.
  • Eating is only allowed in designated spaces. Tables and chairs have been configured to provide physical distancing. 
  • Masks or face coverings can only be removed while eating and drinking. Masks must be worn when individuals are not actively engaged in eating or drinking. Drinks in sealed containers are allowed.
  • Point-of-Use Cleaning carts containing cleaning materials must be used as instructed.

What will happen if an individual does not comply with campus policies?

Individuals who do not comply with the UMB Policy Requiring Use of Face Coverings or other policies will receive a warning, reprimand, or other appropriate disciplinary action and will be asked to leave the SMC Campus Center. 

Can individuals or student organizations reserve spaces for meetings or events?

Reservations to hold events and meetings are not permitted at this time. All spaces are configured for individual use, and physical distancing must be maintained at all times. Group study and group activities are not offered in the SMC Campus Center at the present time.   

Do I need to reserve a space to study or eat?

At this time, a reservation is not needed. If demand starts to exceed capacity, then a reservation system may be used.

Is the lactation room in the SMC Campus Center open?

The lactation room is closed at this time but will be opened after the completion of the renovation project on the third floor of the SMC Campus Center. The lactation room in HSF III, the School of Dentistry, and Saratoga are open. Where can I eat in the SMC Campus Center?

The consumption of food is allowed in designated spaces of the facility and during the times posted, which includes the first floor dining area (next to the book store) and in the Ballroom on the second floor. Masks or face coverings can only be removed while eating and drinking. Masks must be worn when individuals are not actively engaged in eating or drinking. Drinks in sealed containers are allowed.
