The Administration and Finance Grants Writing Team (AF-GWT) is available to provide proposal writing and submission support to department employees.  AF-GWT members are employees of Administration and Finance (A&F) and have been trained to facilitate proposal writing and submission through Kuali Research.

Using grants or contracts as a diversification funding strategy can help to ensure financial sustainability of A&F services and programs.

The Office of Research and Development (ORD) is the chief administrative unit and catalyst for advancing research and economic development at UMB. All UMB research and development processes and policies are administered by ORD. Where appropriate, the AF-GWT will collaborate with ORD to ensure integrity of the research process in support to A&F.

Application Process

All proposal applications or submissions for funding must be submitted through Kuali Research, UMB’s enterprise system for electronic research administration. To access Kuali research, you must be able to log in with your UMB credentials. You will also need to request a User role. Additional information on Kuali Research is available through the ORD website.

Find Funding Opportunities

Grant funding comes primarily from three sources: the government (Federal and State), private business or corporations, and foundations. UMB’s Office of Research and Development provides resources on how to find funding opportunities. Most sources of grant funding allow individuals to register to receive list-serve notifications of opportunities.

Proposal Writing Resources

The AF-GWT is available to assist with any proposal development. The Office of Research and Development (ORD) also provides limited support and resources to proposal writers.

An Investigator Toolkit provides guidance to investigators at UMB who seek or receive funding. Proposal Writing Resources are available within the Investigator Toolkit. However, anyone with questions about the proposal writing process can contact the AF-GWT.
