ACUI Scholarships 2017

The UMBrella Group awarded scholarships to Marianne Gibson, MS, and Emily Lee, MSW, to attend the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Women’s Leadership Institute conference in Amelia Island, Fla., on Dec. 3-6, 2017.

Marianne Gibson, MS

Marianne Gibson Marianne Gibson, MS, joined the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2014, serving as a program manager with the Behavioral Health Resources Team, which is housed in the School of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmaceutical Health Services Research. As a program manager, Gibson is responsible for providing technical and evaluation assistance to local health departments in Maryland as they apply a public health planning model to address substance use and misuse. On campus, she has been involved with the Emerging Leaders Program and the Baltimore Area Health Education Center’s Interprofessional Education (IPE) Planning Committee, which coordinated two IPE events to educate students on the opioid epidemic and train students on how to administer the life-saving drug naloxone.

Emily Lee, MSW

Emily LeeEmily Lee, MSW, is the research and academic affairs strategic administrator at the University of Maryland School of Social Work (SSW). She has a key leadership role in developing and directing strategic initiatives to strengthen the SSW’s competitiveness in procuring state and federal research grants and improve the quality of its MSW program. She builds a sense of community and a culture of information-sharing among SSW principal investigators. She facilitated quality improvements in the SSW at large with the creation of the school’s first consumer satisfaction survey, which generated new ideas for improving the school. Additionally, she works within Academic Affairs to strengthen the MSW program. She created a new advising open house and advising videos for the main website and established an online adjunct orientation and teaching development day to better integrate, orient, and develop the teaching skills of adjunct faculty and to improve communication and the organizational culture for adjuncts, who cover about 40 percent of MSW courses.
