Important Information about early July proposal deadlines

Dear Colleagues,
SPA would like to bring your attention to an upcoming deadline adjustment and its impact on proposal submissions.
The standard NIH deadline of July 5, 2026 (for R01 and U01 renewals, resubmissions, and revisions) falls on a Sunday this year, shifting the official sponsor deadline to Monday, July 6, 2026.
Due to:
the July 4th holiday (observed July 3rd), and
a one-time additional UMB holiday on July 6th,
proposals for the July 5th NIH deadline and any other sponsor with deadlines on July 3, 5, or 6 must be submitted by SPA to the sponsor no later than COB July 2, 2026.
ALL proposals for these deadlines must be routed to SPA in FINAL form by June 26th, 2026.
Final form of a proposal means that the proposal has been completely routed to SPA in Kuali Research (KR) with a complete, final budget and other sponsor-required details and that all narrative documents have been uploaded in final format AND marked as "FINAL" in the Kuali Research Attachments section.
School-Level Deadlines
- The SOM internal deadline for the July 5th NIH deadline for routing final budgets and proposal materials to the Office of Research Affairs remains June 24, 2026
- Other Schools may have their own internal deadlines - please consult your School as applicable
Late Submissions
If a proposal is routed to SPA in final form after June 26, every reasonable effort will be made by SPA staff to review, resolve issues, and submit the proposal by COB July 2, 2026.
