Academics

The Office of the Provost supports each of the schools at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) in developing new programs, making changes to existing programs, program review for programs that are not accredited by a professional organization, and overseeing the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) regional accreditation process.

In addition, the Office of the Provost serves as the liaison between UMB and the Maryland Higher Education Commission and UMB and the University System of Maryland on all matters of academic compliance and requests for information.

In conjunction with the Office of Legal Counsel, the Office of the Provost is responsible for reviewing and approving memorandums of understanding between UMB and other institutions of higher learning.
