Academic Program Review

Program Review plays a crucial role in ensuring that our programs offer high-quality education that meets the needs of students and the broader community. In addition to being required by the University System of Maryland, program review provides an opportunity to address the following:

  1. Quality assurance: Program reviews help to assess the quality of education and the relevance of programs to current industry standards.
  2. Continuous improvement: Program reviews provide an opportunity to identify areas of improvement and make changes to enhance the program offerings.
  3. Resource allocation: Program reviews can inform resource allocation decisions, ensuring that resources are being used effectively to support programs that align with the University's strategic goals.
  4. Student success: Program reviews can help to assess the impact of programs on student success and satisfaction, and to make necessary changes to improve student outcomes.
  5. Accreditation: UMB’s accreditor, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), requires as part of Standard III (Design and Delivery of the Student Learning Experience) that we periodically assess the effectiveness of programs providing student learning opportunities.

Programs that are not accredited by a professional organization are required to undergo review every seven years. Instead, they are reviewed within the timeline mandated by their accrediting body. For a list of professional school accreditation status and schedule, please visit the Professional School Accreditation Status and Schedule webpage.

The current 10-year program review schedule also is available for viewing.
