New Employees

Attention New Hires

Please see below three (3) Required Forms that must be completed within the first week of hire.  These forms must be TYPED, handwritten forms will be rejected by the State of Maryland, Central Payroll Bureau (CPB).  The required forms and their instructions and fact sheet can be found at the Office Of The Controller- Payroll Services Website.  Please read the instructions carefully to avoid any mistakes.

Please note: 
  • These forms must be legible and clear (Original) 
  • Each form must be completed in its entirety and printed on a standard letter size page 
  • You should keep a copy of every form submitted 
  • The forms should be submitted within the first week of hire 
  • Please be advised that you will be taxed at the highest tax rates until CPB has received your completed Federal W4 and State Employee Withholding Exemption Certificate forms.  Tax refund cannot be requested.  These 2 forms also provide your official address to CPB.  This is where your first check and W2 Form will be mailed. 
  • Please be advised that direct deposit may take up to three (3) pay periods to process. 

After the forms are completed, they need to be printed, signed, and dated in Black ink.  Please bring them with you to the onboarding session and submit them to the Onboarding Team.  They will forward your completed payroll forms to the UMB Central Payroll department for mailing. 

If you did not submit these forms during Onboarding, please contact your department payroll rep to submit these forms. The payroll representative will forward your completed payroll forms to the UMB Central Payroll department for mailing. 

If you are a foreign national (not US citizen and not a US Permanent Resident), you are required to complete a Glacier record.  The required Federal W4 and State Employee Withholding Exemption Certificate forms will need to be included in the Glacier packet.  The Glacier packet should be submitted to your department payroll representative.

Onboarding plans and intake plans during inclement weather or an emergency

In the event of inclement weather or an emergency, the following applies:

  • If the campus opens at 9 a.m., please arrive at 9 a.m.
  • If the campus has a 2-hour delayed start, please arrive at 10 a.m.
  • If the campus is closed or opens at 11 a.m. or later, onboarding will take place on the next business day.
