The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is dedicated to fostering an environment where innovative and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies create new opportunities in research and education. To take on this task, an AI Ideation Steering Committee, chaired by Provost Dr. Roger Ward, and an AI Task Force have been established to develop an AI governance policy and framework, identify AI priority investments, and oversee projects that ensure the safe and ethical use of AI at UMB.

AI Ideation Steering Committee

The AI Ideation Steering Committee plays a central role in shaping UMB’s approach to artificial intelligence.  The AI Steering Committee is chaired by Dr. Roger Ward, UMB’s Provost and Executive Vice President. It is composed of a diverse group of stakeholders from across the university and serves as the strategic body guiding UMB’s engagement with AI.
