Welcome to UMB's AI Agent Database, a centralized resource showcasing the artificial intelligence agents being developed and deployed across the University of Maryland, Baltimore. This database highlights AI agents that are currently available, in development and coming soon. Each agent was identified through UMB's AI task forces as a high-priority opportunity to enhance education, research, clinical operations, administrative services, and community engagement. As UMB continues to advance its AI initiatives, this resource will help faculty, staff, students, and partners discover innovative tools that support our mission and drive meaningful impact across the institution.

 

Currently Available

Darwin is UMB’s AI-powered Research Collaborator Chatbot, designed to help faculty and researchers discover expertise, identify potential collaborators, and explore interdisciplinary research opportunities across the University. Built on the NebulaONE (Microsoft Azure) platform and enhanced with institutional research data, Darwin helps users quickly connect with colleagues, support grant development efforts, and build stronger research teams. 

 

Scout is an AI-powered application inventory assistant designed to help users quickly find information about software and technology resources across the university. By providing easy access to application details, ownership information, licensing guidance, and related resources, Scout helps faculty, staff, and students make informed decisions about the tools they use while reducing the time spent searching for information.  

In Development

CLIPPY is an AI-powered assistant designed to help researchers navigate the Institutional Review Board (IRB) application process. By providing guidance and support throughout the submission process, CLIPPY helps users locate relevant information, better understand IRB requirements, and complete applications more efficiently. Developed to support UMB's research community, CLIPPY aims to streamline administrative tasks and improve the overall IRB application experience.

 

IACUC Application Support assistant is being developed to help researchers navigate the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) process. The tool will provide guidance on protocol preparation, submission requirements, compliance considerations, and common questions to support efficient and responsible animal research at UMB. Internal planning documents identify the IACUC application support use case as a priority research-focused AI initiative currently under development

 

 

The All-Knowing Resource for Community Engagement will use AI to bring together information about community engagement activities across UMB. The resource is designed to help students, employees, community members, and university partners more easily discover programs, resources, partnership opportunities, and ways to get involved

 

Coming Soon

HR and Talent Lifecycle Intelligence is a proposed AI-powered solution designed to help streamline and support human resources processes throughout the employee lifecycle. By leveraging trusted institutional data and intelligent insights, the initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency, improve access to information, and support informed decision-making across UMB. As this solution is developed, UMB is committed to responsible AI practices, including strong governance, transparency, fairness, and appropriate human oversight.

 

The Enterprise Virtual Teaching Assistant (VTA) is a course-aware AI assistant designed to support teaching and learning at UMB. Integrated directly into the learning environment, it helps students find answers to course-related questions, understand assignments, and access instructor-approved resources anytime they need them. The VTA also assists faculty by streamlining routine teaching tasks, allowing more time for meaningful instruction, mentoring, and student engagement

 

The Educationalist is an AI-powered teaching and learning assistant being explored to support educational excellence across UMB. Designed to help enhance learning experiences and reduce administrative burden, The Educationalist may provide faculty and students with intelligent access to educational resources, guidance, and academic support. As this initiative continues through planning and development, UMB is evaluating how AI can be used responsibly to improve teaching, learning, and student success while maintaining strong governance and human oversight.

 

One UMB Connection is an AI-powered student services initiative that aims to simplify how students access information, resources, and support across the University of Maryland, Baltimore. By bringing together knowledge from multiple areas of the university, One UMB Connection is designed to help students find answers, discover services, and navigate campus resources more efficiently, creating a more connected and personalized student experience.
