Specialty Recycling Collections at the Campus Center and Lexington Building
Wednesday, April 1 - Thursday, April 30
Recycle books, alkaline batteries, ink/toner cartridges, electronics, and plastic bags and film in designated bins in the lobbies of the SMC Campus Center and the 620 W. Lexington St. building. Please do not deposit non-alkaline batteries including lithium ion (from watches, air tags, and other small electronics), nickel cadmium, rechargeable, etc.
Alkaline Batteries (both ends taped): AAA, AA, C, D, 9-Volt
Electronics: computers, laptops, servers, monitors, printers, keyboards, mice, switches, routers, wire, cellphones, tablets, communications equipment
Books: hardcover and softcover
Toner/Ink Cartridges: laser and inkjet printer cartridges
Plastic Bags and Film: shopping bags, produce bags, Ziploc bags, bread bags, cereal bags, bubble wrap, plastic overwrap, air pillows
SustainabiliTea: Earth Month Edition
Tuesday, April 7, from 9 - 9:45 a.m.
The Office of Sustainability will be hosting a special edition of SustainabiliTea featuring an upcycled craft! Stop by to hang out, ask questions, craft, and drink tea with us. This event is in-person in the Lexington Building on the 6th Floor). Tea will be provided, but please BYO mug.
Meet the Founder: Adam Lindquist, Co-Creator of Mr. Trash Wheel
Tuesday, April 7, from noon - 1 p.m.
As part of UMB's celebration of Earth Month, we are excited to co-host a Meet the Founder event featuring Adam Lindquist, Vice President of the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore and Co-Creator of Mr. Trash Wheel. This event is a collaboration between The Grid and the Office of Sustainability. The event will take place in The Grid, on the 3rd floor of the Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HSHSL). Lunch will be served.
Campus Cleanup
Wednesday, April 8, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Join the Office of Sustainability and Environmental Services for a trash cleanup of campus to #KeepUMBBeautiful! Drop by our basecamp at the main entrance of HSRF III at the beginning of your shift to check in and get supplies. You will be assigned to help clean a specific zone of campus during your shift(s). Swing back by basecamp at the end of your shift(s) to drop off your full trash bags. Basecamp will be located at the main entrance to HSRF III (670 W. Baltimore St.).

Wellness Fair at the Campus Center
Tuesday, April 14, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The fair is composed of more than 50 vendors, student leaders, campus partners, and community organizations that come together to share a wealth of resources designed to help attendees prioritize their physical, mental, and emotional wellness. Learn more here.

Climate Health Symposium
Monday, April 20, from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.
The University of Maryland School of Medicine Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health will host a panel discussion exploring the far-reaching consequences of climate change on public health, using both a global lens and looking specifically at challenges Maryland faces.

Climate and Health Entrepreneurship Workshop: Data and Hardware Resources
Monday, April 20, from 5 -7 p.m.
This will be a workshop to provide feedback and comments on several prototypes for data resources (e.g., climate models, health effect simulations) and hardware resources (e.g., testing and manufacturing equipment) that could benefit climate entrepreneurs. The workshop will be in the format of an open poster session, so feel free to come at any time and stay for as long as your schedule allows. The event will take place at 4MLK.
Walking Wednesday: Earth Month Edition
Wednesday, April 22, from 1 - 2:15 p.m.
Join the Office of Sustainability for a special edition of our Walking Wednesday series on Earth Day. Meet at the Campus Center at 1pm for a walk around the Inner Harbor to Rash Field. The walk will end back at the Campus Center at 2:15pm.
Sustainability Town Hall and Strategic Planning Kickoff
Wednesday, April 29, from 1:30 - 3 p.m.
This event will provide updates regarding new and ongoing campus sustainability initiatives and address feedback and suggestions from the UMB community. The event will also serve as a kickoff to the 2027-2031 Sustainability Strategic Plan development process. The is a hybrid event that will take place in-person in Pharmacy Hall N306 and virtually via Zoom.

Baltimore Intercollegiate Earth Month Event
Thursday, April 30, from 5 - 7 p.m.
The Offices of Sustainability at Johns Hopkins University, Loyola University Maryland, Towson University, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore are collaborating to provide all local university students an opportunity to celebrate Earth Month. More information coming soon.
Alignment with Strategic Plan:
Education and Engagement: Create and maintain a constant communication flow with the entire campus community regarding sustainability. Communicate to the campus on a regular basis with initiatives and tips to keep sustainability a part of the UMB culture.
