Letters from the Chief 2019-2020

Weekend Robbery

Dear UMB Community:

Early Saturday morning, an armed robbery and assault occurred in the 600 block of W. Lexington Street between Pearl and North Greene Streets. No members of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) community were involved. UMB Police officers are assisting Baltimore Police Department officers with their investigation.

Crimes that occur on or near our campus can impact our feelings of safety and security as we come to UMB to learn, work, and socialize. As we start a new year, I want to reaffirm my commitment to you and to our entire community. Our police and security officers are here to protect you and keep you safe. We look forward to having even more security officers join our team in the coming months, increasing the UMB Police Department's visibility and deterring potential crimes before they take place.

Please do take advantage of our Safe Ride program, available through the UMB mobile app (no smartphone? Call 410-706-6882). Our Safe Walk is also available 24/7 by calling 410-706-6882 (6-6882 on campus). We are here to get you safely to your destination, so please take advantage of this service.

Safety is a community effort. Remember - if you see something, say something. Never hesitate to call us (410-706-6882), to use a blue light phone, or to approach one of our officers. We are here to keep you safe.

Sincerely,

Alice K. Cary, MS
UMB Chief of Police
