All participants in the Reproductive Health Fellowship for Clinicians will complete Track 1, which entails online learning and in-person simulation training. Track 2, an optional extension of Track 1, provides experience working in real-world clinical settings.

Track 1

Step #1

Completion of Asynchronous, Online Curriculum: TEACH Curriculum and Ultrasound Modules

MARCH requires all Fellows to first complete our adaptation of the Training in Early Abortion for Comprehensive Healthcare (TEACH) Curriculum series, an interactive, online curriculum for new reproductive health providers. TEACH is an academic community partnership that started in 2003 as a national initiative to address the need for skilled abortion providers. MARCH Fellows will learn the TEACH curriculum with Maryland-specific content and complete assessments offered throughout the ten chapters of the curriculum.

Following completion of the TEACH curriculum, MARCH Fellows will then complete a series of Ultrasound training modules offered through the National Abortion Federation (NAF).

Step #2

In-person Training

Completion of the TEACH curriculum and NAF Ultrasound modules must take place prior to Step #2.  Step #2 is an in-person scheduled, two-day simulation with standardized patients taking place at the end of the cohort’s asynchronous and online learning period.

Day 1

Fellows participate in lectures on medication abortion and ultrasound fundamentals. Fellows participate in simulation sessions for IUD placement, pelvic ultrasound, and procedural abortion.

Day 2

Fellows rotate through three standardized patient encounters focused on medication abortion and pregnancy options counseling. They also participate in targeted didactics and interactive group learning on integrating abortion care into clinical practice and connecting patients with appropriate resources.

Step #3

Post-Fellowship Mentorship and Learning Series

Following completion of the online learning and in-person training sessions, Fellows will be paired with a mentor from MARCH’s network of expert clinicians to stay connected to our growing community and receive updates on future programming.

Track 2

Maryland Clinical Abortion Training Network (MCATN)

Immersive hands-on training in medication and procedural abortion care.

An extension of Track 1, this track offers focused training for clinicians seeking to deepen their expertise in medication abortion and broaden their exposure to procedural abortion care.

Central to the experience is an immersive 80-hour clinical placement at a participating site within the Maryland Clinical Abortion Training Network (MCATN), where participants work alongside experienced providers in real-world clinical settings. This hands-on training builds practical skills and clinical confidence, supporting participants in delivering compassionate, high-quality abortion care.

Track 2 is for:

Currently licensed and practicing clinicians in Maryland seeking to build greater competence in medication abortion and expand their exposure to procedural abortion care.
