President Jarrell's Message

Interim President Bruce Jarrell

Dear UMB Community:

It’s hard to believe that for many of you, your time as a student at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) will soon end. I know that at the end of the academic year, our graduates will head out into the world to fulfill the mission for which we’ve prepared them: to improve the human condition and serve the public good.

Before members of the Class of 2024 moves onto their next chapters, however, UMB will send them off with a festive celebration on Wednesday, May 15, at 660 W. Lexington St., next to the Lexington Street Garage. This event will feature free food, music, games, photo booths, the Orioles’ and Ravens’ mascots, and much more.

All 2024 UMB graduates are invited to the outdoor party, which will be held rain or shine. In the case of rain, the area will be tented. Each graduate may bring up to three guests along for the fun. I will be there to celebrate with our graduates, and I will be joined by our school deans and UMB’s leadership team.

I also look forward to joining Provost and Executive Vice President Roger Ward to confer degrees at individual school/department ceremonies during the week of May 13-17.

More detailed information about the graduation celebration and school/department ceremonies will follow as we get closer to the date. Please bookmark this website, which will serve as a repository of information on UMB’s graduation festivities.

Keep up the good work, Class of 2024!

Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS
