    Off-Campus Incident

    Dear UMB Community:

This morning, a fatal shooting took place in the 800 block of W. Lexington St. The Baltimore Police Department is investigating the crime. There is no current threat to the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) campus.

While this act of violence occurred off-campus, many members of our community live nearby and work just two blocks away in the BioPark. The entire UMB Police Department is committed to your safety and security. We have increased police foot patrols in this area to ensure our community is protected.

Our police and security officers are available 24/7 to escort you safely to your destination, whether it's the garage across the street or a building across campus. Call 410-706-6882 to utilize Safe Walk/Safe Ride. Remember: if you see something, say something - trust your instincts and always call 911 in an emergency.

Your safety is my number one priority. I will update the entire UMB community as additional information becomes available.

    Sincerely,

    Alice K. Cary, MS

    UMB Chief of Police
