notes, not text

This would consolidate the training-related material currently mentioned across rows 8–10.

Potential sections:

  • Training philosophy
  • White Belt training
  • Green Belt training
  • What each level means
  • Time commitment
  • Who participates
  • How training prepares employees to facilitate improvement work

I would avoid making “Green Belt” and “White Belt” separate pages unless there is eventually enough content to justify them.

Building the Skills to ELEVATE How We Work

UMB ELEVATE is built on the expertise of the people who know the work best. Training gives faculty and staff the tools to apply that expertise in a structured way, helping identify opportunities, understand how processes work today, develop better solutions, and support lasting change.

Rather than relying on outside experts to lead every improvement effort, UMB is investing in its own people. Through professional training in continuous improvement methods, employees can become participants, facilitators, and trainers who help lead Rapid Improvement Events (RIEs) and build continuous improvement into the way we work.

Two Levels of ELEVATE Training

UMB ELEVATE offers training at different levels so employees can participate according to their role and level of involvement.

White Belt training provides an introduction to the principles and methods of continuous improvement. It gives participants a shared understanding of how ELEVATE approaches process improvement and prepares them to contribute to improvement efforts.

Best for: Employees who want to understand the ELEVATE methodology and participate in continuous improvement activities.

Time commitment: Approximately 3–4 hours

Green Belt training provides more in-depth preparation for employees who will help facilitate Rapid Improvement Events. Green Belts develop the skills needed to guide teams through the process of understanding current workflows, identifying waste and barriers, developing solutions, and designing processes that can be implemented and sustained.

Best for: Employees selected to serve as facilitators for Rapid Improvement Events and help lead ELEVATE efforts.

Time commitment: Approximately 8 hours

From Training to Action

Training is just the beginning. ELEVATE puts these skills into practice through Rapid Improvement Events (RIEs), where employees work together to examine a process and identify opportunities to make it better.

An RIE follows a structured, collaborative approach:

  1. Learning: Understand the current process and how the work gets done today.
  2. Discovery: Identify waste, barriers, inefficiencies, and opportunities to improve the flow of work.
  3. ELEVATEment: Work together to brainstorm and develop potential solutions.
  4. Process Design: Finalize the improved process and determine how it should work.
  5. Planned Implementation: Put the new process into practice and establish ways to sustain the improvement.

This approach brings together the people who perform the work, the people who understand the process, and trained facilitators who can help guide the team toward practical solutions.

Growing a Culture of Continuous Improvement

The goal of ELEVATE training extends beyond individual courses or events. By developing continuous improvement skills within UMB, we are building an internal network of people who can help their colleagues identify challenges, explore solutions, and improve the way work gets done.

As more employees gain these skills, UMB can increasingly draw on its own expertise to simplify processes, remove unnecessary barriers, create greater value, and continuously improve how we work together.
