Every 10 years, UMB undergoes reaffirmation of accreditation with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). This comprehensive evaluation is an opportunity to strengthen the University, assess institutional effectiveness, and ensure continued public confidence in our programs.
About MSCHE
- MSCHE is one of seven regional accreditors in the United States.
- Regional accreditors evaluate entire institutions, not individual programs or units.
- MSCHE primarily accredits institutions in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
- It is a voluntary, non-governmental membership association dedicated to quality assurance and improvement through peer evaluation.
Accreditation by MSCHE is a voluntary process of peer review, intended to sustain the quality and integrity of higher education. Special emphasis is placed on student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness, ensuring public trust in the University’s mission, goals, and resources.
Next Evaluation
UMB’s next decennial accreditation evaluation is scheduled for 2026.
Self-Study
UMB's 2025 Middle States Self-Study Report represents a nearly three-year process of institutional review in preparation for a site visit by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) in April 2025.
The Self-Study was developed by representatives from across the University, including volunteers from the Steering and Logistics Committees and seven Working Groups. It incorporated feedback from the UMB community through town halls and other engagement opportunities.
