Award Management supports UMB investigators from the time an award is received through project closeout. These processes ensure that sponsored funding—whether a grant, cooperative agreement, clinical trial, or corporate contract—is set up correctly, managed in compliance with sponsor and University requirements, and closed out appropriately.

At UMB, award management activities are handled by:

  • Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) for grants and cooperative agreements, and
  • Clinical Trials and Corporate Contracts (CCTCC) for clinical trials and industry-sponsored agreements.
  • Award Setup and Initiation

Information related to establishing a project after an award is issued, including system setup and initial requirements needed to begin work.

  • Managing Active Awards

Addresses ongoing responsibilities during the project period, including required reporting, sponsor payments, and other activities necessary to keep an award in good standing.

  • Award Changes and Modifications

Guidance on sponsor-approved changes to an active award, such as updates to funding, period of performance, scope of work, or budget, when allowed.

  • Faculty and Personnel Transitions

Information related to faculty or key personnel, including incoming and outgoing transfers of awards or agreements.

  • Sponsor Requests and Pre-Award Requirements

Covers sponsor-initiated requests and documentation that may be required before an award can be finalized, such as Just-in-Time materials or other sponsor-specific requirements.

  • Award Closeout and Termination

Outlines requirements for concluding an award or agreement, including early termination and final technical, financial, and compliance reporting.
