Developing Comparative Global Modules for the Social Welfare and Social Policy Course

PhD Candidate
Morgan will develop comparative global module additions for the Social Welfare and Social Policy (SOWK 600) course, a required foundation policy course for all incoming MSW students. Using Costa Rica as a recurring comparative case, the modules will help students examine U.S. social welfare policy as a set of political choices rather than inevitable defaults. In an increasingly interconnected world, globally informed social workers are better equipped to advocate for equitable, justice-centered policy. Grounded in community-based participatory research principles, the modules will be co-developed with partners at the Universidad de Costa Rica and local social service organizations, then piloted before UMB implementation and adopted across all SOWK 600 sections next year.
