Global Awareness of Occupational Health Practices in Dentistry

Dr. Alania's project focuses on enhancing the wellness of dental learners and educators by addressing a critical, yet often underrecognized, gap in professional training—global awareness of occupational health practices in dentistry. High rates of musculoskeletal disorders among dentists highlight a broader issue: while technical competencies are emphasized, there is limited exposure to how ergonomic practices, prevention strategies, and workplace cultures differ across healthcare systems worldwide. Rather than sharing or exporting local approaches, this initiative is grounded in a reflective question: What do students not yet understand about how dentistry is practiced globally, particularly in relation to provider wellness? By integrating global perspectives on ergonomics, workload management, and preventive occupational strategies, the project aims to broaden learners’ understanding of alternative models of practice and support them in developing more sustainable professional habits.
