The Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (OEDI) is pleased to offer Baltimore Heritage-Based Tours for Teaching and Learning, an engaging and educational tour through some of the most historically significant areas of Baltimore. This tour is designed specifically for faculty in academic health, law, and social work to connect historical knowledge with the broader educational experience, providing valuable insights for integrating people and place-based pedagogy into teaching and curriculum development.

Led by Black History Tours, a local organization with extensive expertise in the city’s cultural heritage, participants will visit key landmarks and explore the city’s rich cultural heritage, with a special emphasis on the intersections between the history of the University of Maryland, Baltimore and the broader cultural landscape of the city.

 

What to Expect

  • A 2-hour tour that begins and ends at Lexington Market.
  • Insight into Baltimore’s African American heritage and its relevance to contemporary academic discussions.
  • Rest breaks will be available throughout the tour.
  • Recommended Attire: Comfortable shoes, as the tour involves walking; periodic breaks/rest periods will occur along the way.
